Manuscript Submission Policies and Procedures

Publication Timetable

MJLST is published semi-annually. The journal goes to press in Winter and Spring.

Selection & Editing Timetable
The author will receive instantaneous acknowledgment of receipt of the manuscript when submitting through ExpressO http://law.bepress.com/expresso/. Authors who submit articles via email will receive an acknowledgement of receipt via email from MJLST.

Authors will be notified of manuscript decisions as soon as possible or within six weeks of receipt, depending on the length of the manuscript and the number of submissions received at a given time.

Accepted manuscripts are usually published within 3 to 6 months of acceptance. Authors may withdraw or request expedition of their articles via ExpressO or by emailing mjlst@umn.edu.

Return of Manuscripts
MJLST retains one copy of all manuscripts submitted for consideration. Upon receipt of a request in writing by the author along with a SASE, copies can be returned to the author.

Abstract
An abstract can be included. It should not exceed 1500 words.

Ethical Studies
MJLST requests that authors only work with studies that have been carried out in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and/or with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals as adopted and promulgated by the United States National Institutes of Health.

Biographical Material
Biographical material must be included on the resume enclosed with the submitted manuscript.

Review Process Consultation
If accepted, your manuscript will endure the scrutiny of faculty review. This process generally lasts approximately 2 to 10 weeks.

Review Process Consultation
Authors will be consulted during the editing stage about any editorial changes with the exception of minor standardizations. Authors will be given a 2-week response window.

Authors should inform the editors about anticipated long-term absences which would hinder consultation at least by e-mail in a timely manner.

Authors will receive final-stage proofs for review. Only major corrections will be permitted at final stage. The 2-week response window applies at this stage as well.

An author's failure to respond to editing changes and/or final-stage proofs during the time provided will be deemed acknowledgment that the changes are acceptable.

Figures and Diagrams
Figures, charts, diagrams and tables are welcomed. They should be submitted to MJLST in camera-ready form. Inquiries concerning suitability can be directed to mjlst@umn.edu.

Copyright Forms
Authors must sign copyright forms prior to publication.

Compensation
Authors will be compensated for their work by receipt of 50 complimentary copies (25 for student articles) of their article and 5 of the journal issue in which it appears. For articles with multiple authors, the 50 copies will be sent to the author listed first in the citation.

Additional Copies
Authors may purchase additional copies at cost if the request is received before the issue goes to press. E-mail mjlst@umn.edu with requests.

Manuscript Submission Acceptance
MJLST accepts manuscripts year-round. Formal deadlines are not in place for each issue but publication decisions are normally in place in September for the Winter issue and in February for the Spring issue.
